New Heat Treating Facility Certified for ISPM-15 Heat Treating Specification

About Heat Treating

  • Beginning in 2004 All Wood Packing Material (WPM) must conform to IPPC standard ISPM-15
  • Compliance with ISPM-15 for WPM provides two options for treatment, Heat Treatment and Methyl Bromide.
  • Heat Treatment (HT): For a WPM to meet ISPM-15 standards they must conform to the 56/30 rule. This rule states that the wood must reach a core temperature of 56 degrees C for a minimum of 30 minutes.
  • To ensure that this standard is met, Troymill recently installed a state of the art dry kiln on site in 2006. Troymill uses a series of three probes to measure the core temp of all our HT products to confirm compliance of every shipment.
  • All WPM treated to ISMP-15 must be stamped with the following information:
  • IPPC symbol;
  • ISO two letter country code followed by a unique number assigned by the NPPO to the producer of the WPM, who is responsible for ensuring appropriate wood is used and properly marked;
  • Appropriate treatment code according to Annex I of ISPM 15 (e.g. HT or MB). The mark may contain other information so long as it is not confusing, misleading or deceptive.
